ODBC Driver is an ODBC-Database access driver for MySQL databases, which supports all SQL functions such as stored procedures, transactions, and Unicode characters. Originally called MyODBC, it is now included with a set of MySQL connector libraries.
As database management systems matured, developers created their own interaction interfaces, and users wanted a tool that would unify the interaction between different applications. ODBC drivers arose in time. To get access to Microsoft Access, MS Office, OpenOffice, Borland, Adobe ColdFusion, Sambar Server and SunSystems products, the driver must be connected in order to them. As the database is only accessed by Windows systems, and Linux and Unix systems do not require a driver, installing MySQL requires the services that they do.
